The 'Yellow's on the Broom'... International Live Music Mearns May
Festival Gig
"The yellow's on the broom, when the yellow's on the broom,
Oh, I'll tak' ye on the road again when the yellow's on the
broom" (Folksong, Adam McNaughton)
There are no bands on the run but there is a whole lot of live music on the move
at our feature-packed festival in the Mearns Royal Burgh of Inverbervie on the 3rd
and 4th of May. This year's "Yellow's on the Broom" International Festival at
Sillyflatt Barn is importing Helldorado, featuring the most electrifying
psychobilly from Stavanger and ferrying over the Timo Gross Band, playing the
finest R&B from Heidelberg.
Skanking over from Glasgow are reggae rebels Man at the Window and strutting in
from Edinburgh are blues-rock guitareros Stevey Hay and the RayVons.
To see and hear from Korea is performance artist Moon Suk and her Opera
Operation Orchestra and clattering down the railway track from "The Broch" come
the incomparable Deviltrain.
The Mossy River Rock Band is steaming up the psychadelic swamps and boogie
deltas of the Clyde with Robin Miller, one of Scotland's finest finger-picking
guitarists, at the helm.
Revved-up and ready to go are local heroes The Residents and crossing The
Borders of folk-funk fusion come Indie upstarts Katie and the Dull Fudds.
Crossing the time barrier come the Jacobean thrillers The Trybe and guaranteeing
genuine ethnicity are Guinean malinke rythm ensemble Sodeya and Japanese Taiko
drummers.
Arriving by magic in the early evening is children's favourite Harry Mudini and
guitar genius Gerry Jablonski will defy gravity and levitate. Later evening side
stage acts have all manner of musical surprises only to be revealed on the
night.
The Festival is being held for the ninth consecutive year at Sillyflatt Farm,
situated one mile south of Inverbervie near the junction to Gourdon and may be
accessed directly from the A92 Stonehaven to Montrose "Coast Road".
On each evening the music starts at 7.30 pm. - this is a suitable time to
appreciate the more mellow acts, the paintings and the other artefacts on
display and for sale. Our two stages are decked-out with local daffodils and set on a wooden dance
floor. Seating at genuine 'Biergarten' tables provides for a good
viewpoint for the stage acts and for a respite between dance flings - believe
us, with the music we've got lined up you'll need a 'breather' now and again!
Fancy Dress! Get Dressed Up! Why not ?! Your interpretations of The Yellow's on the Broom theme are invited -
with a prize each night for The Best Outfit from our compere, German TV and radio star, Stefan Reusch.
Locally,

Refreshments will be available in the spacious bar in the barn's
stone-arched alcove to the main floor area. High standard, professional outdoor
catering has been organised to serve everything from haggis, neeps, tatties and
stovies to German Bratwurst and French pancakes, with soups, coffee and tea and
a non-alcoholic cocktail bar also available.
Continuing the ‘Yellow’s on the Broom’ Festival’s on-going tradition of education and enlightenment,
during the Saturday and Sunday afternoons at the nearby Mill of Benholm, various
tuition workshops are on offer for
adults and children . The workshops are being given by performers appearing
later in the evenings as well as local experts.
As well as the workshops, this year's "Fringe Events" include an art exhibition by
the charismatic Norwegian artist Ingeborg Kvame and a road tour by Timo Gross Band.
Ingeborg is flying over from Stavanger after a recent exhibition in Edinburgh National Gallery
to personally welcome you to her exhibition, opening in "The Creel Inn",
Catterline, on May 1st., presenting some of her inspirational works done whilst in
residence in Catterline's "Watch House" studio.
Meanwhile, Timo, Frovin and Michael are taking to the road after working their passage
as quest performers on the Zeebrugge-Rosyth ferry. Their road tour taking in
Edinburgh (The Ark), Montrose (The Black Abbot), Gourdon (The Harbour Bar),
Inverbervie (The Cutty Sark), Stonehaven (The Marine Hotel) and Aberdeen (The
Blue Lamp) before being pressed-ganged back on the return ferry to Zeebrugge and
countries beyond.
Tickets are still on sale in Inverbervie, Gourdon, Stonehaven, Johnshaven,
Catterline, St. Cyrus, Montrose and Aberdeen at £15.00 for one evening or £28.00
for two evenings; accompanied children up to 11 years at half price.

The Mossy River Rock Band

The Mossy River Rock Band was formed in the West of Scotland in 2008.
Mossy Miller (acoustic guitar / vocals), Algae Macdonald (drums), Lichen Chaudeurge (percussion), Fungi Wood
(bass guitar) and Mangrove Macdonald
were brought together by a shared love of the outdoors life and late 60s psychedelic rock. Combining the two
interests resulted in The Mossy Bonfire Tapes - a series of jams recorded by a river near Dunoon where the
band played at midnight, warmed by a bonfire made entirely of moss. Although these tapes were green, vaguely
furry and slightly moist they caused an instant sensation in the field recording review pages of esteemed
nature publication 'Wet and Boggy Marsh Monthly' and the Mossy River Rock Band agreed to perform at the 2008
Yellow's On The Broom Festival to cater to public demand within the national community of swamp-like-habitat
enthusiasts.
The Mossy River Rock Band's sound is comparable to that of The Band or of Canned Heat - harmony-laden
acoustic/electric boogie swamp rock, with one foot in the hippy/folky past and the other foot entrenched
firmly in a wet and mossy bog.
Will you be green and furry at Yellow's On The Broom? - The Mossy River Rock Band will be there to salute
you...

Harry Mudini
Harry Mudini is an illusionist and magician of the highest calibre and loved by the
children at previous festivals for his spontaneity and
fun, and admired by all for his classic showmanship. Harry and his "talented assistants"
will be appearing on the small stage in the early part of the evening and,
in-between, popping up all over the barn with tricks and treats for small
gaggles of youngsters.
During the Sunday afternoon, at the nearby Mill of Benhom,
Harry will be giving tuition workshops on classic conjuring and magic tricks for
children. As with all the afternoon workshops, please register your interest and
